So, we did a thing! We are officially Australian home owners! We bought a five-acre farm about 40 minutes from Melbourne. When we envisioned the Australian dream, this was it. Kangaroos, kookaburras, wombats, echidnas (maybe?), cockatoos, galahs, king parrots, magpies, and room for our own animals. Jack has requested sheep and goats, chickens, bunnies and cats.
We’re in the process of scheduling massive renovations inside the house. Fear not, the red carpet will be the first thing to go! We’re adding a few bedrooms to make it Phillips sized, and redoing all things plumbing, electrical and network, adding more solar and batteries, adding insulation (most Aussie homes older than about 10-to-12 years are not insulated), and making it very energy efficient. It probably won’t surprise anyone that we’re also building a micro datacenter in the shed, and then trenching fiber in between it and the house.
If all goes well, we should be done renos in eight months and moved in shortly after. We’re intending to have a housewarming party very early in 2023, right before PTC, so people can hit it on their way home. We’ll send out invitations once it looks like we are on track, timewise. We cannot wait to entertain everyone!
